Go to http://www.babaschess.net/download.asp

Then you will receive  message "Would you like to run or save SetupBabasChess_4_0_XP.exe"  Click Run.

Next there should be a message Would you like to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes on your computer Program: SetupBabasChess_4_0_XP.exe, etc... Click Yes.

The BabasChess Setup Wizard begins:

Click Next

Click I agree, then click Next

By default Babas is installed to Program Files.  Click Next

Wait while Babas Chess is installed

Click Close
There should now be a Babas Chess icon (Shortcut) on your desktop

Click on the shortcut to Babas Chess

Select your language and Click Ok

You will be asked to choose a path where to install your Babas Chess folder at.  By default it will be in your Documents folder.  Click OK

Next you will see the Configuration Wizard.  Click Next.

Click Yes then click Next

Enter your handle and password.  Click Yes.  Then click Next.

Choose whichever option describes you best. Click Next.

Choose whether or not you would like pop-up windows for challenges, draw offers, etc.  I find pop-up windows annoying, so I click No and receive the notifications in my console.  Some users, however, would find the pop-up windows helpful. Click Next.

Choose the match type you usually play and click Next.
Then choose whether or not to enable "The Boss" mode.  Next, click Finish.

You will be prompted to choose a Theme.  Choose whichever theme suits you best and click Apply.  Choosing a Theme is done mainly for which background style you like best.  You can always change the board color and pieces in preferences.

You may receive a message are you sure you want to change the Theme.  Click Yes.

Once you've click apply, Babas Chess will log in.  You will see your Console, info window, chat, and channels.  Experiment by pressing Ctl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3, Ctrl+4, Ctrl+5, Ctrl+6, Ctrl+7, Ctrl+8, and Ctrl+9 to see each of the different available formats.  I usually use Ctrl+5 for when I'm just online, Ctrl+7 for when I'm playing, and Ctrl+9 for when I'm playing bughouse.  Decide which formats you like best.

Click File.  Then click Preferences.  In preferences you can customize your board, pieces, premove, sounds, font of type in interface, etc.  You can also add scripts to be executed when you log in, when a game is over, or when a game starts.

In View -> User Rules you can add users to your Babas Chess notify, no-play, no-partner, and censor lists.

Whenever you want to log in to FICS, simply click the Babas Chess icon on your desktop and you will be logged in, ready to play.

Good chess and Enjoy!
